Tribute to Langston Hughes

One of my favorite poets, Langston Hughes, was born February 1, 1902, in Joplin, Missouri. Today marks the 107th anniversary of his birth. More than 40 years after his death in 1967, his sublime and powerful works continue to inspire generations of Americans.

See this link for more about Hughes:

"I, Too, Sing America"
by Langston Hughes

I, too, sing America.

I am the darker brother.
They send me to eat in the kitchen
When company comes,
But I laugh,
And eat well,
And grow strong.

Tomorrow,
I'll be at the table
When company comes.

Nobody'll dare
Say to me,
"Eat in the kitchen,"
Then.

Besides,
They'll see how beautiful I am
And be ashamed--

I, too, am America.
