I was in high school when I bought my first Elton John album. It was his Greatest Hits album featuring many of my favorite songs: Your Song, Daniel, Rocket Man, Bennie & the Jets, and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. The following year I bought his new album Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy with his beautiful song "Someone Saved My Life Tonight." These tunes bring back memories of my high school days. Some happy, some sad.
This used to be my favorite album years ago. It is just the best.
ReplyDeleteBelle: Mine, too. Elton was so unique. A terrific song writer. Thanks for stopping by for Tuesday Tunes today.
ReplyDeleteYeah, man, back at this time the man could do no wrong - pop, rock, ballads - standout music down the line - and most certified classics!I wish he could break away from the somewhat sappy stuff these days and rock it out like he used to! Fantastic choice Luana, as always!
ReplyDeleteCraig: I wonder about aging songwriters like Elton, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, etc. Yes, everyone loves the songs they sang when they were young. But somehow they don't sound right when they sing them now. They need new songs, but people don't want to hear them. How sad.
ReplyDeleteSongs express your soul and the lyrics are about what's going on with you at the time. Yes, there are timeless songs...but maybe they need to be sung by someone else whose lives they touch now.
I'm still trying to figure it out.
