Best of the Terminator movies. In my opinion, they should have stopped right here and not bothered with the sequels. Arnold at his best....minimal dialog and lots of action. "I'll be back."
What I like about this movie:
Sarah Connor changes from a wimpy, insecure girl to a powerful, determined woman.
The concept of time travel and the weird logic of Sarah and Reese's relationship.
The scene where the cops think Reese is a paranoid schizophrenic as he tells them his story. Yeah, it does sound crazy.
Great chase scenes...just when you start to take a breath, the action picks back up. Edge of your seat the whole time.
The burning truck scene where the Terminator rises from the flames as a metalic skeleton and keeps on coming after her.
The scene where Sarah terminates the Terminator. The red eye powers down. Finally!
The photograph scene with the Mexican boy at the end of the movie...perfect full-circle twist.
Excellent, excellent,(dare I repeat myself) excellent choice.
ReplyDeleteHuntress: I totally AGREE! Arnold's best.
ReplyDeleteGreat time-travel sci-fi with an excellent villain! I loved this movie when it came out, but I haven't seen it in a long time.
ReplyDeleteJenny: The first time I saw it was on TV and then later bought the VHS tape, which I still have. I never get tired of this movie.
ReplyDeleteLove this movie!
ReplyDeleteI consider myself extremely lucky to have never seen any of the sequels :-)
ReplyDeleteHi, Belle: This movie broke all the rules. James Cameron is a genius.
ReplyDeleteLisa: How did you manage that? Very cool. You're not missing anything. Although some people really like Terminator II because of the very cool SFX. I wasn't a fan because Arnold became the good guy. I liked him best as the bad guy.
ReplyDeleteLuana - one of my faves of all time! Absolutely terrific movie from first frame to the last! Thank goodness the original casting didn't come off - which would have pitted Ah-nuld's Reece against a T-800 played by...OJ SIMPSON?!?! Whew! We dodged a filmic bullet on that one! I do have one quibble with everyone on here today, though - the sequels are good movies too! Especially T2, a big budget and very clever continuation of an excellent first movie! I would put these films' quality ratio at 110%-100%-92%. Even the third movie is good, which is incredibly rare! Only the Die Hard movies have maintained the same kind of quality ratios! 110%-96%-92%-90% I understand your preference for the bad Schwarzenegger, but keep in mind it's programming, not a vile villain "deciding" to turn good, which is always a little hard to take. Great post, Lady L!
ReplyDeleteCraig: I understand your point. I agree that the movies are good...but the original is a MASTERPIECE. It's become a franchise, which isn't really my cup of tea. I felt the same about Rocky (although I really liked Rocky III). Exception to the rule: Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back was the best of all the Star Wars movies, even the original.

ReplyDeleteCraig: OJ SIMPSON? ARE YOU KIDDING?! That would have been horrendous, to say the least. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great film. I own all of the DVDs and I enjoyed the entire series as I recall. I need to go back and watch them all again because I tend to forget them until I've seen a movie several times.

Tossing It Out
Hi, Arlee: Yes...you totally need a Terminator Day! Have a viewing party. I watched it yesterday. Hadn't seen it in a while. It was awesome.
