Welcome to the A to Z Blogging Challenge where I will post on a word
featuring a different letter of the alphabet each day of the month of April.
My theme for this challenge is Female TV Characters.
Jane Hathaway - "The Beverly Hillbillies"
THE STORY:
Come and listen to a story about a man named Jed
A poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed
And then one day he was shootin' at some food
And up through the ground came a bubblin' crude.
Oil, that is. Black gold. Texas tea.
Well, the first thing you know ol' Jed's a millionaire
Kinfolk said, "Jed move away from there!"
Said, "Californy is the place you oughta be."
So they loaded up the truck and moved to Beverly.
Hills, that is. Swimming pool. Movie stars.
UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL: A Vassar graduate, Jane Hathaway is Mr. Drysdale's secretary and works at the bank where the Clampets have deposited their millions. The Clampets refer to her as "Miss Jane" and consider her one of the family. Her major conflict is her affection for the Clampets and loyalty to her boss, who constantly schemes to get the Clampet's fortune. Her crush on Jethro makes it all worthwhile.
What would you do if you had a million dollars?

I used to love this show (on reruns, that is!): she's a cool character, thanks for remind me of her.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen that show but you've captured my interest :)
ReplyDeleteIf I had £1,000,000 I'b build a huge paintball arena for me and my mates.
What a brilliant character played so perfectly by Nancy Kulp. The early seasons of this show were amazing. It got a little cartoony in the later seasons, but before that one of the funniest shows I've ever seen. I also liked how they would just end the episode with no story wrapup, and just pickup with the next episode - continuing in that fashion until the storyline was finished.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the post and your blog. If you've the chance, pop over to mine. I'm the author of the Bella and Britt series of kid's books.
ReplyDeleteThanks, and good luck with the challenge!
Jen: It's one of my favorite sit coms. Brings back childhood memories. I always liked Miss Jane. She and Jed were the only ones that had horse sense.
ReplyDeleteJack: Definitely check it out. It was one of the most popular sitcoms in the 1960s. Still plays on TV in reruns. OOh, paint ball arena. Sounds like fun!
ReplyDeleteCraig: Yes, the early episodes were the best. Hilarious. Kulp was perfectly cast as Jane Hathaway. She rocked that part! I haven't seen it in ages, but you're right about the story line. They don't do that with shows anymore...everything is more calculated.
ReplyDeleteHi, Nancy! Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteI loved Jane Hathaway! Her facial expressions killed me.
ReplyDeleteIf I had a million dollars I would pay off both my daughter's houses. That would take all of it!
Belle: That's nice to help your daughters. I would buy a house. We've never owned one.
ReplyDeleteHA!
ReplyDeleteVery funny.
It's been a while since I've seen those.

I loved that show. I still find myself singing the song to this day. I wish I could find it on reruns, it has to be out there somewhere.
ReplyDeleteOh I LOVED Jane Hathaway! And that goofy, goofy show and its earworming theme song! Your theme is fabulous and just a quick scroll-through put a big smile on my face. Geez, I miss Elaine from Seinfeld. Such a funny, funny girl.
ReplyDeleteHeather: Those old TV shows are great. I love the Hillbillies.
ReplyDeleteJanyce: It's playing in reruns somewhere. A whole new generation can enjoy the show! You can probably watch it online. Check hulu and youtube.
ReplyDeleteCathy: Thanks for stopping by. It's about time we paid tribute to the ladies of TV! Lol.
ReplyDeleteI'd be completely disbelieving for months. I hope I'd buy a few acres of bush area where the endangered Leadbeaters possum is trying to avoid being made extinct in the wild by logging companies. There'd be some over so that I could spend years making and discarding plans!
ReplyDeleteSue: An A-Z of Climate Matters
Sue: Kudos! A noble cause to help threatened species. Money can make things happen. The problem is the politics that sometimes stands in the way.
