This movie scared my socks off! Vacationers inadvertently witness a Satanic cult ritual and are then chased by the devil worshippers. One of the vacationers is Peter Fonda who kicks up some dust with his motorcycle (ever since Easy Rider, Peter Fonda always has to ride a motorcycle in his movies). If it was just him against the Devil, he might stand a chance. But he's not alone. He's traveling with his wife (Lara Parker) and friends (Warren Oates and Loretta Swit) in a big fat RV with "nowhere to hide."
Race with the Devil (1975) is definitely over the top, but the end is still horrifying!
I can't watch any movies with Satan worshipers in it. Horrible!
ReplyDeleteBelle: It's definitely not for everyone. For me, I put myself in the characters' place. What would I do if I were on vacation, minding my own business and accidentally witnessed a horrible crime (or ritual or whatever) and the killers came after me? Of course the first response is to go to the police, which is what they do in the movie, but of course the cops are in on it. In fact, the chief of police is the KILLER! Yikes!
ReplyDeleteOh, wow, can you pick 'em, Luana! Another unsung gem! I saw this with my folks at the drive-in during it's time first run or possibly second - either way I was not yet in double digits - wow, what a scary movie! It's got to me one of the most relatable hooks a scarepic can have: average joe sees something terrible happening, and is seen seeing it! That could happen to anybody! Combine that with a spiffy cast (LOVE both couples - very cool) and solid direction by Jack Starrett - who might be best remembered as an actor - playing the wicked Galt in the first Rambo movie, First Blood - the deputy sheriff who wants to shave Rambo...dry... and you have a movie I'm itching to see again! Excellent post, LK!
ReplyDeleteCraig: This movie is unforgettable. It definitely left an impression on me when I saw it back in the day.
