Tuesday Tunes: Folsom Prison Blues

Here's a shout out to the amazing Johnny Cash! I grew up listening to his music because my mom sang his songs to us when we were knee-hi to a June bug. As an adult, I admired his songwriting talent and his unique voice. A country rocker from the get go.

Gotta mention that Joaquin Phoenix did a terrific job playing the Man in Black in Walk the Line (2005). Amazingly he sang the songs himself!

Johnnie Cash was a legend for sure. Even when he got older he held a secure grip on they who could appreciate his lyrics.
Listen to his song The Man in Black; the words are gripping. He understood life, and helped us try to. And Luther was good too.

Johnny Cash - wow, what an electric performer! I always found his voice compelling - as a kid my favorite song was the one about the flood waters "How high's the water mama? Four feet high and rising. How high's the water papa? She said it's four feet high and rising." As I've grown older I've become a fan of anything the man did, from singing to acting. Did you ever see the video for the sequel song to Charlie Daniels' "Devil Went Down to Georgia?" I don't remember the title, but the video has several celebs in it, including Johnny Cash acting up a storm as a fire-and-brimstone preacher - the song was just okay - but the video was cool thanks to the Man in Black!

Craig: Yes, I remember that movie. He was pretty good. Such a powerful presence. I know that song...How High's the Water, Mama? Awesome. My Mom loved Jackson, the song he sang with June Carter. I can play it on my guitar. We got married in a fever, hotter than a pepper sprout...YEAH!
